Welcome

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Website of Alexandria Country Day School, a dynamic independent school for children from kindergarten through the 8th grade.

The educational experience of a K-8 school has been shown to be one of the healthiest and most productive for all children, and the ACDS community exemplifies all the elements of the best K-8 schools: small classes, engaged and experienced teachers, an academically-challenging curriculum, and an active and supportive parent community. With the confidence and self-esteem a K-8 school provides each child, it is no surprise that children who graduate from ACDS are accepted and excel in some of the most competitive high schools in our area: Gonzaga, T.C Williams, the Potomac School, Madeira, St Stephens & St. Agnes, the Field School and St. Albans to name just a few.

Alexandria Country Day School has grown each year since it was founded in 1983. We are a close-knit community that values and nurtures the relationship among teachers, parents, and students—a relationship that is made possible by classes of just 12 to 16 students. Each year, we review and improve our curriculum and we have been recently reaccredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools. Our vision for each academic year is clear: we want to bring out the best in each student—academically and socially, as athletes, artists, writers, scientists, and contributing members of the community.

If you are the parent of a young child, trying to make the decision about kindergarten, or the parent of an older child deciding to opt for a rigorous and supportive environment during the challenging middle school years, we invite you to explore our website, get acquainted with our programs and our teachers, and visit the school to see our mission statement come alive in the spirit and the special atmosphere that characterizes ACDS. I look forward to meeting you soon.

Sincerely,

Alexander Harvey IV
