Director of Development

Alexandria Country Day School, serving approximately 220 students in grades K-8 in Alexandria, VA, seeks an experienced professional to lead its development efforts.  The Director of Development will serve as part of the Advancement team and will have responsibility for ongoing fundraising and special event activities.  Key tasks will include managing and soliciting gifts for the Annual Fund, planning and executing larger-scale campaigns, organizing special fundraising events, cultivating donors throughout the ACDS community, and nurturing our alumni base. The Director of Development reports to the Director of Advancement, but in this small K-8 school is a crucial member of the administrative team and will work closely with the Head of School and Board of Trustees as well.

Candidates should possess a B.A. degree, three or more years of nonprofit fundraising experience, superior written and oral communication skills, be highly organized and detail-oriented, have exceptional interpersonal skills, and be a team player.  Previous experience in independent school fundraising is preferred.  We are eager to consider applications from traditionally underrepresented groups.

Substitute Teachers

Alexandria Country Day School is currently recruiting substitute teachers for the 2025-2026 school year. This position is on-call and as needed. Qualified candidates must be enthusiastic, team players and have an appreciation of the unique qualities of the Kindergarten through 8th grade age group. A Bachelor’s degree and criminal background check are required. A background in education and classroom experience is preferred.
