Just what does it take to be the Head of ACDS? Your child will have the chance to find out when he or she takes over as Head of School for a day. The day will begin greeting students on the front steps and include meetings with administrators, as well as lunch off campus with Mr. Baytosh and a friend of your child’s choice. Your child will also accompany Mr. Baytosh to observe faculty teach their classes. Will it be a free dress day? It’ll be up to your child to decide!

214. Design the Art for the Back Cover of the ACDS Cookbook
Do you have a budding artist in the family? Give them the opportunity to let their creativity shine by designing the back cover for the ACDS community cookbook. This is an exciting opportunity to have your child and up to 2 friends create an art piece displayed in a prominent place in our community in FULL COLOR. The cookbook will be available late spring 2021 and will be sold to the greater ACDS Community!
Restrictions: Artwork must be able to be scaled to a 5.5’’ x 8.5’’ size. All work must be original work of the artist and can be a drawing, painting, or collage with a food or community theme. Art will need to be submitted by April 5, 2021. The ACDS Cookbook Committee reserves the right to request alterations to art if necessary. Jump in the saddle for this bike riding adventure which will take your amateur cyclists throughout Alexandria for Tour de Alexandria! Your child and 5 cohort friends will join Mr. Girard and Senora Gomez on a bike ride that will start at ACDS and go through Alexandria across the bridge into National Harbor and back along the Mount Vernon Trail, through Old Town, and over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Students will have a chance to get a unique view of the area as they cross the bridge and pedal through the streets of the DMV. Participants will enjoy some ice cream while taking a break and taking in the sights at National Harbor. After taking in the sites, the crew will head back to ACDS for pickup.

218. Pitching Lessons with Mr. Hart
Learn to pitch baseball from Shephard University Hall of Fame inductee, Mr. Hart! Winner and a friend will enjoy two, 45-minute pitching lessons on ACDS’ campus. The first lesson will include an evaluation of technique, a video analysis, and video notes for the student to work on. The second lesson will involve checking to see if the students made the adjustments that were suggested and working on any specific pitches or technique that the student is looking to improve on. Mr. Hart was a standout pitcher on the Shepherd baseball team from 1996-2000. He was the ace on the 1997 team that led all NCAA II schools in winning percentage with a 39-7 (.848) record. Mr. Hart posted a 9-0 mark and gained Second Team All-American honors as well as Third Team Academic All-American accolades. He was chosen as North Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year. A three-time WVIAC All-Conference choice, Mr. Hart owns the Shepherd career marks for most wins (24), most innings pitched (237.1), most starts (40), and most strikeouts (212). Mr. Hart has also worked a summer at Cal Ripken Baseball School as an instructor.

Join fellow ACDS parents for a Virtual Guided Wine tasting! Each ticket includes 3 FULL bottles of specially selected artisan wines shipped direct to you for you to open, sample and enjoy during our zoom tasting with a portion of each ticket benefiting the school.
Once the wine arrives, we will gather April 23rd at 6:30pm for a wine country tasting experience where we will laugh, learn, and discover your new favorite sparkling, white, and red varietals. After nearly 16 years in the Wine Industry, our guide, Diane Nozik of WineShop at Home, brings her approachable style, helpful tips, new ideas and fabulous pairings as she walks us through each tasting.
After we’ve clinked glasses and compared notes, we’ll each have a chance to place orders for our favorites to benefit ACDS. The wines are handcrafted and blended with grapes from all corners of the world! We hope you’ll join us and raise a glass (and some funds) to fun, friends, and savoring the good stuff! All adults are welcome.
