Just what does it take to be the Head of ACDS?  Your child will have the chance to find out when he or she takes over as Head of School for a day.  The day will begin greeting students on the front steps and include meetings with administrators, as well as lunch off campus with Mr. Baytosh and a friend of your child’s choice. Your child will also accompany Mr. Baytosh to observe faculty teach their classes. Will it be a free dress day?  It’ll be up to your child to decide!

Restrictions: Your child’s day as Head of School will take place on a mutually agreeable date during the 2019-2020 school year.  However, if your child is in 8th grade, we will schedule their day as Head of School this spring.

The day will provide a unique opportunity to experience each country’s cultural heritage and national traditions.

Calling all ACDS junior chefs! Your aspiring baker and three friends will head to Mrs. Street’s house to bake some sweet treats and learn how to decorate cupcakes with icing made from scratch! The students will have the opportunity to decorate their own aprons and enjoy a pizza dinner while the cupcakes bake. They’ll even bring home extras to share with you!

Restrictions: This baking experience will take place after school on a mutually agreeable date between March and June 4, 2019. Students will ride home with Mrs. Street after dismissal and will need to be picked up at 6PM. Mrs. Street’s home is not nut-free.

Be the first ACDS students to take home your own SeaPerch! Your child and a friend (or two) will take a deep-dive into underwater robotics with this once in a lifetime opportunity. Mrs. McDonald and Mr. Lieberman will lead the students on a day of cutting, drilling, soldering, and building while constructing their very own SeaPerch. Participants will receive all the necessary materials to build a working SeaPerch, lunch, and unlimited support.

The group will tour the beautiful Jefferson Building at the Library of Congress (including a peek at the amazing reading Room), followed by a trip to one of our favorite local Bookstores: Kramer books, where you can select a new book on us!

First Graders and Ms. Samuel created an “action painting” inspired by Jackson Pollack. Each student splattered, dripped and swirled a color onto this abstract expressionist painting. This piece shouts fun and will look vibrant on any wall!

222. 2nd Grade Art

Second Graders and Ms. Samuel created a circle weaving with a variety of colorful yarns using a hula-hoop as the loom. When completed it was removed from the hula-hoop and set in a shadow box frame. This collaborative piece was woven with love and precision to make this one of a kind art-piece a special addition to anyone’s art collection.
